-Interpret intraoral dental radiographs to identify normal anatomy, common dental pathology, root morphology, and other findings relevant to extraction planning
-Use preoperative and post-extraction dental radiographs to develop an extraction plan, evaluate root and surrounding bone anatomy, and assess the extraction site following tooth removal.
-Perform a complete oral exam and be able to identify pathology in the mouth
-Identify appropriate regional nerve blocks for common canine dental procedures and demonstrate an understanding of the anatomical landmarks, placement techniques, and precautions associated with each block.
-Select and properly use dental extraction instruments and high-speed equipment, including elevators, luxators, periosteal elevators, handpieces, and burs.
-Perform basic single- and multi-rooted canine dental extractions using a systematic approach that includes gingival flap development, controlled bone removal, tooth sectioning, periodontal ligament fatigue, root elevation, and delivery.
-Demonstrate appropriate surgical technique and tissue handling, including flap design, alveoloplasty, bone graft placement when indicated, and tension-free closure.
-Identify the stages of periodontal disease and be able to treat a small periodontal pocket with closed root planing
-Recognize and reduce the risk of common extraction complications through appropriate case assessment, radiographic evaluation, instrument selection, and surgical technique.
